7 Ways LinkedIn Is Like Diplo
You may not think the #11 DJ in the world has much to do with the #1 job site, but that's where you would be wrong!
Just like LinkedIn, Diplo peaked years ago, but still rakes in buckets of cash from aging Millennials.
The TV show, What Would Diplo Do? (starring James Van Der Beek) was actually pretty comical, much like LinkedIn’s UI.
Diplo dated M.I.A. and helped write the absolute banger “Paper Planes”. Similarly, using LinkedIn makes you want to shoot yourself four times while they “take your money.”
Most people don’t realize that when the incomparable Sia sings, “Baby, baby, don't you see? I got everything you need” on “Genius”, she’s really talking about the LinkedIn Feed. “Are you stupid? Batshit crazy?” No, you just really want the latest update from that dude that sat at your lunch table at that conference 14 years ago.
Just like an ideal LinkedIn candidate, Diplo is constantly reinventing himself and founding new ventures. Proving his teamwork skills, Diplo teamed up with two other DJs to create Major Lazer. And just like that ideal LinkedIner, Diplo was able to turn job rejection into even greater success. Both Rihanna and Nicki Minaj rejected him: “We have enjoyed learning more about you, but at this time, we have decided to move forward with other songs.” Instead, Diplo found MØ through a LinkedIn InMail(™) targeting artists with one letter and one number (?) in their name and, together they turned Lean On into Spotify's most streamed song of all time. Take that RiRi!
Diplo inadvertently ruined a Jonas Brother wedding by live-streaming it on Instagram. LinkedIn advertently ruins your e-mail with invites from Indian marketing experts offering to “support each other” and suspiciously hot Bealrusian outsourcers.
Diplo kinda sorta rhymes with “crypto” and that’s what I really write about, not DJs and LinkedIn. All of this idiocy above was just a way to get around what seems to be a LinkedIn shadow ban on crypto content. In fact, you can sign up for a twice a month newsletter here that uses news events to teach you about the big ideas in crypto in a moderately entertaining format.
The most recent issues covers such topics as:
Can doggie avatars save the planet? And is the website of the Japanese Society of Manhole Lovers safe for work?
Should you be concerned that a crypto futures market named after tropical fruit may not have had the best risk measure in place?
How can crypto + zero knowledge = big boosts in privacy?
Read it here or even better, subscribe and tell your friends. Oh, and I actually saw Diplo at XS in Vegas just a month ago and he was tons of fun so, Diplo, please don’t be mad that I used you as a prop to get likes and, everyone else, go see him on tour.
